Each Thursday night at 9pm TCM adds an extra treat to your viewing pleasure as it continues its hugely successful movie competition. You can win some fantastic prizes just by simply watching a film and answering a question. At the end of the Thursday 9pm film there’ll be a question about what you’ve just watched and if you answer correctly you could be in with the chance of winning a great prize.

This month’s fantastic prize gives you the chance to mingle with the stars at the opening night gala premiere of the Belfast Film Festival on 10th April with transport and accommodation included!

All you have to do is send TCM and your answer (a, b or c) by text to 60030* as many times as you like and you'll be entered into the fabulous prize draw. A pair of love-struck bank robbers are on the run in this celebrated film, based on a true story.

Five reasons to watch:

  1. This was one of the ground-breaking films of the 1960s and as such it polarised opinion with some critics heralding its brilliance and other’s writing it off.
  2. It may not seem so to viewers watching this film today as Bonnie and Clyde’s director, Arthur Penn set the benchmark for realistic violence in films and as his realistic approach has now become the norm.
  3. This film launched the careers of acting talents like Faye Dunaway and Gene Hackman as well as establishing Warren Beatty as talented producer.
  4. The film looks incredible; the exquisite styling sees Faye Dunaway in the Depression era looking like something out of Vogue.  Her look went on to spawn a fashion craze.
  5. The film was nominated for 10 Oscar®s it is a testament to the talented cast that five of them were nominated in the acting category – Beatty, Dunaway, Gene Hackman, Michael J Pollard and Estelle Parsons - but only Parsons was successful.

In Which We Serve(1942) on Thursday 13th March at 9pm     
           
Themes of patriotism and war are explored in this high seas drama featuring a stellar British cast.

Five reasons to watch:

  1. Noel Coward wrote, starred and co-directed with a young David Lean earning a Best Picture and Best Screenplay nomination and an honorary Oscar for his achievement.
  2. Alongside Coward there’s a veritable who’s who of British film with John Mills, Bernard Miles, Richard Attenborough, Michael Wilding and Celia Johnson.
  3. The film was made whilst WWII was still being fought making the themes of honour, heroism, duty and dignity all the more poignant.
  4. A semi-documentary style, gave added realism to the story which is said to have been based on the wartime experiences of Lord Louis Mountbatten.
  5. It is no surprise that this is considered one of the best and most influential British war films and it also gives a fascinating insight into 40s British society.

A brutal all-action thriller about an ex-con and his wife on the run after being hired to rob a bank.

Five reasons to watch:

  1. Controversial director, Sam Peckinpah, directs the gritty action with his trademark flourish mixing slow motion camera shots with brutal violence to produce a menacing crime thriller.
  2. There’s unmistakeable chemistry between Steve McQueen and his off-screen squeeze Ali MacGraw,
  3. McQueen is perfect as a charming, if flawed, anti-hero.
  4. Car and train chases, shoot-outs and plenty of double-crossing deeds blend with a fantastic 70s score by Quincy Jones adding another layer of cool to an already stylish movie.
  5. The action is set in the beautifully barren wastelands of Texas perfectly captured by Peckinpah’s loyal cinematographer, Lucien Ballard.

Clint Eastwood stars and directs this western about a man seeking revenge for the murder of his family by Union soldiers.

Five reasons to watch:

  1. Clint Eastwood brilliantly portrays a man who is hell-bent on revenge following the brutal massacre of his family who turns from farmer to brutal assassin.
  2. A fantastic support cast includes Eastwood’s long-term partner of the time, Sondra Locke, Chief Dan George, Paula Trueman, Bill McKinney and John Vernon.
  3. The story is intense and captivating story packed with a range of well-drawn and fascinating characters.
  4. All the action is carried out against a backdrop of stunning countryside beautifully captured by expert cinematographer, Bruce Surtees.
  5. Eastwood counts it among his favourite films, Morgan Freeman has said it is on his top ten movie list, so find out what all the fuss is about.
